Histoire
En 1670 Chatham mit à l'eau son premier vaisseau de 1er rang, le HMS Prince (ou Prince Royal).

Prince was
a 2nd rate ship of the line of 98 guns. She fought at the battle of
Trafalgar.
She was built at Woolwich in 1788.
She saw relatively little action during her career and seems to have been
a relatively poor sailer.
She was not immediately commissioned on the outbreak of war with
Revolutionary France, lying in ordinary at Portsmouth in April 1794.
By 1805 she was in
service with the Channel Fleet under Captain Richard Grindall.
At the Battle of Trafalgar, in October 1805, the Prince destroyed
the French ship Achille.
